After over a year of lockdowns, restrictions and being advised to stay at home, it’s obvious that we’re all looking to get out and about this summer when we can… but the big question is… where do we go?! We ran a survey and asked young drivers what they’re most looking forward to doing this summer, and we thought we’d share the answers with you all.

83% are seeing friends and family

This past year and a half have been hard for most, and one big reason is because we haven’t been able to see our loved ones. As lockdown restrictions start to ease, we can finally start planning family get together and gatherings with the ones we love the most. Whether you’re planning on going out or staying in together, make sure you keep up to date with the government guidelines to make sure there aren’t any restrictions in place for when you want to meet!

79% of you are going on holiday!

One thing I think we can all agree on that we’ve missed is a holiday! Now whilst it’s more than likely going to be a UK based holiday this year (whether it’s a weekend away, or just a day trip), getting away from the day to day is so important for our physical and mental health! If you’re taking a road trip this summer – here’s some top tips for you…

  1. Plan ahead… spontaneous trips are great, but you need to make sure you have the basics covered; enough fuel to get you where you need to be (or at least planned on where to stop to fill up if you need to), a destination or route, snacks and water for the road. Also if you planning on staying overnight somewhere, it’s best to book this in advance – everyone is planning on sunning themselves in the UK this year so availability might be scarce.
  2. Make sure you leave at a good time to get to where you’re going, especially if you have a long trip lined up. You don’t want to end up going during rush hour, then spend the entire journey in gridlock traffic… your holiday is waiting!
  3. If you’re heading out on a day trip, figure out where you’re going to park. Popular destinations can get busy so it’s good to check where you’ll be parking before you get there. Companies like JustPark and YourParkingSpace allow you to book a parking space before you even arrive at your destination, meaning you won’t be driving around and around to find a parking space!

We've got some great blogs on our website that will help you decide where to head this summer, whether it's on holiday or just a road trip! Check out our blog all about coastal road trips for those seaside summers and spectacular views, or our city road trips blog that will show you the places to go if you want to shop til' you drop! Pst* we've even got some car packing hacks if you're heading to a festival this summer... you're welcome!

71% are eating out!

Who knew that the luxury of a good restaurant (or a cheeky Nandos) would be missed so much during lockdown?! I sure didn’t… but lockdown hit and many of us were dusting off the old cookbooks and attempting to make our own fancy dinners at home, and honestly, I don’t know about you but it made me appreciate everything a restaurant does even more! There’s no hiding how hard the hospitality industry has been hit during COVID, so now they’re up and running again, most people are heading out for the dining experience they’ve been dreaming of (or anything they didn’t have to cook!). The Government ‘Eat Out To Help Out’ scheme might not be running anymore but there’s lots of other ways to save money on your eating out trips – like getting a TasteCard that gives you things like 2 for 1 on dining and days out!

49% are getting back to your hobbies

It’s not just the shops and restaurants that closed during lockdown – places like the gym, sports classes and groups were cancelled and all of sudden those hobbies that we enjoyed so much came to a halt. Now whilst we may have tried to embrace these hobbies at home in lockdown, one of the best parts about attending them is getting out and seeing friends there too – and we can’t wait to get back to it!
