What is covered with Marmalade Pay As You Go Insurance?

Our Pay As You Go Insurance covers young drivers when they are behind the wheel of the parent’s car that is specified on the policy.
Start your policy by purchasing the first 500 miles and top-up as and when you need to. We'll cover provisional and full licence holders aged 17-27 on most family cars, provided the car is not over 20 years old, above group 32 insurance or over £30,000 in value.

Cancelling your policy

We hope you’ll stick with Marmalade but if you do decide to leave us within 14 days of the policy start date, here’s what to expect:

    • We will refund the part of the latest premium paid by you, that hasn't been used. A £60 cancellation fee to help cover the cost of the tag, will be deducted from the pro-rata return premium for your unused miles (if further top ups haven't been purchased)
    • If there has been a claim where costs have not been recovered there will be no refund.
    • If we declare your policy void on the grounds of fraudulent activity, there will be no refund.
    • You may cancel your policy up to 30 days in advance however a refund amount will only be available to you from the date of cancellation.

    • If you make changes to the policy during the policy term, we will charge up to £15 to make a mid-term adjustment.
    • At the time you contact us to make the change, we’ll let you know the total price to be paid, including any fees, taxes and charges separately from the premium, so that you know the full breakdown before any changes are completed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I be covered to drive straight away with this insurance?arrow
As this is a pay per mile policy you will need to fit your tag and pair it with the Marmalade Young Driver app on your phone to enable measurement of the miles used. The box should arrive with you within a couple of days of purchase and your cover will start as soon as the black box device and phone app pair successfully.
How long are the miles I purchase valid for?arrow
Miles will be valid for 12 months from purchase, so you have plenty of time to use them if you are not driving that often. The great news is that for every year you stay claim free, you will earn a years No Claims Discount!
How do I top up the miles on my insurance?arrow
No-one wants to run out of miles mid-journey, so we've made it easy by arranging for your policy to top up automatically when you have 50 miles remaining. You will be asked to select your preferred top up amount when you purchase, from 100 - 500 miles. If you reach a point you no longer need the insurance, you can simply give us a call and we will cancel the policy and refund any miles remaining since your last top up.
