Will my cover be affected by COVID-19?arrow
Your insurance cover and your ability to make a claim during this time will not be affected. As you may be aware, many companies have their teams working remotely and may be managing with higher staff sickness than normal, so at these times it may take a little longer to get through on the phone.
Read our COVID-19 update here.
How does it work?arrow
The policy is designed to sit alongside the existing motor policy of the car you'll be driving and provides fully comprehensive cover while you're driving in that car. If a claim needs to be made while you're driving, it will be made on your own policy and won't affect the No Claims Bonus of the car owner (which we're sure they'll be very happy to hear).
Is temporary insurance dual insurance?arrow
Marmalade Student Car Insurance is a temporary risk policy that just covers you, as the policyholder, when you are behind the wheel. Dual Insurance occurs when the same items are insured against a certain risk under more than one insurance policy. Cover is only provided under the Marmalade Student Car Insurance Scheme for drivers who hold a full UK licence and are not named in the main insurance policy covering the vehicle. This means it does not cover the same risk as the main policy.

What type of medical conditions need to be notified to the DVLA?arrow
Any medical condition that could affect your driving should be advised to the DVLA. The DVLA website contains details on the medical conditions that should be notified, and how to notify them. If you have advised the DVLA of your condition and they have granted your licence, you can be covered with our Student Car Insurance policy. However, cover will not be offered if you have not told the DVLA about a condition that should be notified to them, as this invalidates your licence.
