Industry expert Gary Thompson has joined Marmalade – a leading provider of insurance and cars for young drivers – as Underwriting Director.
Gary, who has nearly three decades’ experience in the trade, has previously held roles at NIG, Groupama and Chaucer. He joins from his most recent role as Head of Schemes at Markerstudy.
Gary has forged strong relationships with key figures in the broker market, and specialises in niche and non-standard motor schemes including specialist vehicle, motor trade, taxi, motorcycle, commercial vehicle, family fleet and young driver cover. The latter of which will be particularly relevant for his new role with Marmalade, which provides car insurance exclusively to young and learner drivers.
Gary’s role will see him evolve and enhance Marmalade’s current product offerings, adapting them to further fulfil customers’ needs, as well as expanding Marmalade’s customer profile.
Gary has previously worked with Marmalade on product offerings, including helping to create its Student Car Insurance and Named Young Driver Insurance whilst working for Chaucer and Markerstudy, when they acted as underwriters for Marmalade.
Crispin Moger, CEO of Marmalade, commented: “We’re delighted that Gary has joined Marmalade. A key figure in the industry, Gary brings a wealth of experience to the table, as well as a track record of creating innovative products such as short-term learner driver and family car sharing cover. He has consistently produced excellent underwriting results throughout his career and he is already proving to be a huge asset for us.”
Gary Thompson, Underwriting Director at Marmalade, commented: “Marmalade is an exciting, disruptive and innovative company that I have admired over the last 13 years – both from afar and during the times when I have been able to collaborate with the team in previous roles.
“I look forward to helping the brand remain at the forefront of technology and innovation, such as telematics, to ultimately help keep young drivers safe on the road in an affordable way.”
