Our black box insurance covers young drivers aged 17-30 as the main driver of their own car. For drivers aged 17-21, all we ask is that a parent or guardian is added as a named driver.

We provide comprehensive cover for full and provisional licence holders on cars up to 25 years old in most UK postcodes, including Northern Ireland. Both our Annual and Pay As You Go black box insurance options offer the same level of cover.

Pay As You Go Insurance customers

We’re no longer offering Pay As You Go Black Box insurance on a young driver’s own car. If you already have this type of cover with us, your policy will expire on the anniversary of the date you originally took out the policy – this is to ensure that you still have the opportunity to earn your No Claims Discount for the year. Until this date, you can still top up your miles as normal.

If you have any questions, we’re on hand via Live Chat so just get in touch.

  • For policies purchased on or after 6th January 2023, the administration fee, the pro-rata premium for the time you have been insured, and a cancellation charge will be deducted from the price you paid for your policy (this includes the insurer charge + 12% IPT, and a Marmalade charge).
  • For policies purchased before 6th January 2023, the administration fee, the pro-rata premium for the time you have been insured and a cancellation charge will be deducted from the price you paid for your policy (this includes the insurer charge + 12% IPT, and a Marmalade charge).
  • In the event of a claim being made, regardless of when the policy is cancelled, the full insurance premium is payable and there will be no refund given.
  • If Marmalade or our underwriters cancel the policy, we will refund the part of the initial premium, payable by you, and cancellation fees will only apply if you have not adhered to the conditions of the policy.
  • If we declare your policy void on the grounds of fraudulent activity, we will be entitled to keep any premium you have paid.
  • The same charges apply if you cancel your policy within the 14-day cooling off period.

  • Policy administration fee: The price you pay for your insurance includes a non-refundable administration fee.
