Flexible and comprehensive cover for learners to drive a family member's or a friend's car, from £1.87* per day
Marmalade's Learner Driver Insurance helps you to get those all-important extra hours of driving practice in a parent’s or friend’s car
Learner insurance is short term cover that sits alongside the main policy, providing fully comprehensive cover when you're behind the wheel – while you are practising, and during your driving test, if needed.
The great news is that there is no risk to the car owner’s No Claims Discount if you need to make a claim on your Learner Insurance. They’ll be so delighted we’re sure they’ll take you out for lots of practice!
Adding a learner to a policy can be expensive, and some insurers won’t offer cover. Our flexible insurance for 30, 60, or 90 days means you can buy cover in affordable chunks without affecting the main insurance.
Get a quote in seconds by simply submitting your age and postcode.
Take a few minutes to complete your application, then make your payment.
You can be covered instantly, so you can start that extra driving practice immediately!
Once you’ve held your first policy with us, you can renew for periods from as little as 7 days.
Quick and easy to arrange.

Great service over the phone
Great service over the phone. Found it difficult to complete on-line as I couldn't find how to create more... an account and it only gave me option to login. I phoned for help but this wasn't resolved. Instead I completed the transaction over the phone.
Great service. Thanks again!

Friendly, quick and very straightforward
Flexible comprehensive cover for learner drivers aged 17 - 34, with no risk to the owner’s No Claims Discount.
Quick and easy to buy with no added fees – just a few clicks and you’ll be covered in minutes!
Comprehensive cover while practising - and during your driving test - on a family member’s or friend’s car.
We can provide Learner Driver Insurance on most family cars, up to insurance group 32 and £30,000 in value.
Any driver who is over 25, who currently holds a current valid full UK driving licence, and has done for at least three years, can supervise you. It doesn't even need to be the person who owns the car. Of course, you'll need the permission of whoever owns the car - we're sure you knew that anyway!
Provided it meets the criteria of our policy and you contact us to update the vehicle details, you can change the car you are insured to drive in.
The policy only covers you for driving the car you took your policy out for. But don't worry, you can always take out another policy for any other cars you might wish to drive. And you can even switch to a different car partway through your cover.
Cover will stop immediately when you pass, so make sure you have someone to drive you home! If you let us know when you pass (which you will do!) we'll refund any full 30 days' worth of cover you have left on your policy for a small administration fee of £10. Unfortunately we cannot refund any incomplete 30 days' cover you have left when you pass your test.
If you're continuing to drive your parents’ car when you pass then you can start to earn your own No Claims Discount with our Named Young Driver Insurance. Got your own car? Our New Driver Insurance can help you to get on the road in a safe and affordable way - get a quick quote here.
Thinking about buying a car when you pass? It's worth looking at our Cars for Young Drivers which combines a new car with free insurance for the first 12 months, or an insurance contribution! (depending on your postcode)
No not with this policy. The policy is designed to sit alongside an existing motor policy of a car owned by someone else. Take a look at our New Driver Insurance, which is designed to cover you to drive your own car and will cover you on a provisional and full licence!
It won't affect the main insurance at all! Marmalade Learner Driver Insurance is a temporary risk policy on the learner driver. Here is the technical bit… Dual Insurance occurs when, in the case of insurance against loss or damage, the same items are insured against a certain risk under more than one insurance policy. Our Learner Driver Insurance provides cover for drivers who hold a provisional UK licence and are not named in the main insurance policy covering the vehicle and therefore it does not cover the same risk as the main policy.
