180 day learner driver insurance is one of our longer temporary learner policies. It gives provisional licence holders 180 days of comprehensive cover in someone else's car, and is designed for learners who want to settle into driving without keeping one eye on a countdown. It allows time to progress naturally from unfamiliar to confident.
The policy is a standalone one, running independently of the car owner's own insurance. That means claims are handled through your Marmalade cover, keeping their No Claims Discount and existing policy untouched.

Am I eligible?
To take out 180 day learner driver insurance, we'll need a few things to be in place:
- You will need a valid UK provisional driving licence and be aged between 17 and 34.
- Anyone supervising you will need to be aged 25 or over and have held a full UK driving licence for at least three years. Additional requirements may apply depending on the vehicle you're practising in.
- Most cars are eligible for learner driver insurance, provided they meet our vehicle requirements. You'll be able to check whether the car qualifies when you get your quote.
What happens as your test approaches?
With 180 days to work with, test preparation can feel less like a countdown and more like the natural next step in your learning journey. If your test date falls within your policy, you'll be covered right up to the moment you pass.
If your test date is later than your policy end date, or if you'd like a little more time to prepare, you can take out another short-term policy in any of Marmalade's duration options and pick up your learning where you left off.
