If you have looked on any of Marmalade’s social media platforms, it’s likely you will come across various photos of a dark grey Vauxhall Adam Slam – spoiler alert! That little beauty is all mine. Now, before I decided to order this, I tried to do my research but found a lot of it straight up confusing. C’mon, I’m a 22 year old girl – I really don’t know a whole lot about engine sizes and driving performance (is it just me?). Of course, I read out the specifications of the car to the adults (you’ve guessed it – I still refuse to believe I am one) and my dad was quickly on board saying “it sounds like it could be the perfect car for you, Chlo”.
Now up until this point, I knew I wanted one thing – a quirky looking car. After debating a Fiat 500 and a few others, I saw the Adam and it really stood out. It was mainly how it looked that caught my eye and made me take the plunge – but I wish I had someone let me know what the car is really like, without using all the technical jargon.
How it looks on the outside
Let’s face it – the Vauxhall Adam is a quirky looking ride and may not be everyone’s cup of tea but for me – it is perfect! Driving around, and I barely see any other Adams on the road and even if I do – we all seem to have them in a variety of different body colours and roof colours that it feels like I’m driving a one-off car!
How it feels
As a new driver – I’m definitely still learning how my car performs and what-not, but overall the performance does exactly what I need and want it to! It’s super light to handle, so it doesn’t feel like you’re driving a tank like some cars do. It’s pretty good on how many miles I can do in it too. Granted, I haven’t actually calculated – but I can go a good few weeks without having to put more petrol in so it’s great on the purse strings too. I may not have the power to pull off in a cloud of smoke, but my car makes every journey feel comfortable and safe.
If you’ve got 3 kids, are in a one-man band or you’re looking for a car to put 2 months’ worth of shopping into the boot space, then this definitely isn’t the one for you. If you’re wanting to look pretty cool and quirky on the road, have access to the latest tech available and have an all-around comfortable and fun car to drive, then the Adam could be a good shout!
For me, I never really have more than one passenger in my car at a time (usually my boyfriend moaning at my driving skills or insulting my choice of music for the road) so it’s the perfect size. I knew I didn’t need a whole load of space in the car, be that the boot or the back seats because I rarely take passengers. I’m also pretty useless when it comes to parking, so the smaller for me, the car the better!
As much as I want to think I am not a typical girl, I am. I want my car to look pretty and match my personality, all for the weird satisfaction of getting more than 12 likes on an Instagram picture of it. The Adam does just that. It’s different lights, buttons (I’m still not 100% on what they all do), screens and all other features are just as unique as the car, and make a fab shot on my Snapchat story.
When I put in the order for Adam – there were different tech options I could choose from and I honestly didn’t have a clue what any of it meant. (Disclaimer: I promise you, I’m not as stupid as this blog is making me seem) The one thing I did understand, however, was choosing if I wanted a touch-screen panel in my car – one of the biggest decisions we have to make in our lifetime’s I assume. After weeks of intense deliberation (actually, it was more of a snap decision whilst drinking my morning coffee, but don’t tell anyone I’m that impulsive) I decided I didn’t really need a touch-screen in my car too. Whilst it’s a pretty nifty feature, and definitely one for your Instagram page I decided it wasn’t for me. Don’t worry – Adam still looks amazing without it!
What would I change?
As much as I love my car, and I do – I wish I had spent a little longer deciding on the colour, and gone to see the colours in real life. I knew I wanted a grey car, but there were 2 grey options to choose from and I sometimes worry I should have chosen the other – but then I also think there are bigger issues in the world, and I really just need to get a grip!
All in all – I would 110% recommend the Vauxhall Adam Slam! It’s quirky, cool and everything I wanted in a first car.
