Young driver stories 5 min read

I have been a full licence holder for about a year and a half now (where has the time gone?!) and whilst at the beginning driving was the most exciting thing, I’m now BORED. Work, home, mum’s house, shopping, work, home, work… you get the idea. It’s the same thing day in day out and I’ve started to lose what I loved so much about being behind the wheel. The excitement of heading somewhere new, experiencing new roads and going wherever you feel like it – because you can! So to help me, and anyone else who is stuck in a driving rut, I’ve found 5 different places I am pledging to head to, to bring back my love of driving and adventure.

1

Cheddar Gorge – Somerset, England

This beautiful landscape is 10 miles south-west of Bristol and is in the heart of the west country. Even from looking at pictures, you can see how much of a fun drive this would be. It’s 15 miles long and will take around 30 minutes to get through the twisting turns Cheddar Gorge has to offer. I can’t wait to head here for a road trip – and then eat my body weight in cheese.

2 - Snake Pass – Peak District, England

Located in the Derbyshire section of the Peak District, Snake Pass crosses the Pennines and Ladybower Reservoir. It’s said that the route is pretty tangled and can get a bit difficult, but it’s a challenge I am up for! It’s 42 miles long – giving you plenty of time to take in the amazing views Snake Pass has to offer. It also carries the A57 to Sheffield or Manchester, so I won’t be too far away from the city for some shopping after.

Whitsand Bay – Cornwall, England

In Cornwall, the south-east corner is set to be a bit of a hidden gem. Taking the coastal road to Whitsand Bay is said to give you some pretty spectacular views. You’ll be high over the 5 miles of sand and cliffs, meaning you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the amazing surroundings. After taking it all in, continue through to Looe for a day at the beach with ice cream!

Loch Lomond – A82, Scotland

I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland, but never seem to find the time. That’s all going to change – I’m determined to head to Scotland this year, and what better road trip than driving through from Glasgow to Inverness where the A82 offers amazing views throughout! I’ll even get the chance of passing through the beautiful Lock Lomond which I’ve been told is pretty special.

Le Mans – France

Yes, I’m thinking of taking my driving to the next level and heading abroad. I’ve never been to France before, and what better way to experience it than hopping in the car and heading there? After looking into it, it seems that Le Mans is a pretty good place to go! It offers the Cathedral of St. Julian and Cité Plantagenêt for the history, and the Circuit de la Sarthe (Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing) and the Musée des 24 Heures du Mans (Museum about the Le Mans sports car race) – if this doesn’t bring back my love of driving, I don’t know what will! If you’re thinking of heading abroad in your car, make sure you check your insurance policy covers you to do so.

And there we go – 5 amazing places that I plan to drive to, to bring back my love of driving. I’ll definitely have to remind myself of this road trip checklist before I go. Let me know if you want to hear how my trips go, and places you would drive to bring back your love of driving.
