New research has revealed the UK’s best and worst drivers based on their star signs. As the champions for young drivers, we analysed over 3.6 million driving scores from our app & tag telematics system to find out how good (or bad) our driving habits are based on our star signs.
We’ve used the data from our Black Box Insurance customers from June 2021 - January 2022 to give you the best insight into the correlation between the 12 zodiac signs and driving habits! The scoring is based on how harsh an event is, meaning the higher the score the worse the driving offences are.
So whether you’re a cool headed Gemini or a fiery Leo your horoscope could influence how you behave behind the wheel!
1 Aries - 21st March to 19th April
Known for their courageousness, determination and passion, Aries are considered to be very confident drivers.
However their impatience and impulsivity can leave them feeling frustrated by exhaustive details and unnecessary nuances, making them impatient whilst out on the road.
Totalling the highest points for taking corners too quickly, totalling 3.68 points, it’s important that this fire sign keeps a cool head.
2 Taurus - 20th April to 20th May
Reliability and patience are key attributes of the Taurus sign, however their stubbornness can cause some carelessness on the road.
Despite being very responsible, Taurus’ have been found to speed behind the wheel, coming in second place for the total speeding points received, with 0.24 points, and could improve on their braking skills.
3 Gemini - 21st May to 20th June
Geminis are notorious extroverts, so it’s no surprise that when it comes to phone usage, it is Geminis who need to stop chatting and keep their eyes on the road!
Averaging a total 0.66 points for phone motion, Geminis are more likely to use their phone behind the wheel than any other star sign.
Their ability to learn quickly means they’re quick to pick up new driving skills, but need to be mindful of those bad habits.
4 Cancer - 21st June to 22nd July
Tenacious and emotional, Cancers command their friends’ total loyalty and undivided attention, but they will return it in droves. A ride or die friend and partner.
These qualities are certainly reflected in their driving capabilities, with Cancerians scoring highly for safe cornering and brake speed, which means you’ll feel safe and sound whilst a Cancer is behind the wheel.
5 Leo - 23rd July to 22nd August
Passionate, warm-hearted and stubborn, Leo’s are certainly the most fiery of the signs. However when it comes to driving they’re cool-headed and careful.
Leos remain focused behind the wheel, spending little time on their phones and braking and accelerating with plenty of time. However their driven nature does mean they have a tendency to speed, clocking up 0.24 points, which is something to be mindful of.
6 Virgo - 23rd August to 22nd September
Known for their extremely high standards, none more so than for themselves, and tendency to obsess, Virgos are fantastic detail-people and can be relied on to make everything go smoothly. However these high standards don’t quite match their driving profile.
Virgos tend to over-accelerate which results in slow brake times, meaning their driving isn’t necessarily smooth sailing for their passengers.
7 Libra - 23rd September - 22nd October
Co-operative, diplomatic and gracious, Libras are the charmers of the Zodiac and they love socialising and being the centre of attention.
However, despite their social nature, this sign takes the rules of the road seriously and is the sign least likely to use their phone whilst on the road, scoring 20% less than chatty Geminis.
8 Scorpio - 23rd October to 21st November
Scorpios are strong, enigmatic, independent characters who have an unignorable intensity and charisma.
You could assume this strength makes Scorpios intimidating drivers on the road, however the opposite is true. Tipped as the best drivers for their safety taking corners, braking and accelerating, you’ll always feel safe as a passenger.
9 Sagittarius - 22nd November to 21st December
Sagittarians are lively, passionate and smart. They love to feel free and resist rules, regulations, constraints and schedules.
Their resistance to rules and regulations could be said of their driving too, scoring just behind Geminis for their phone usage and clocking up 1.69 points for their acceleration too.
10 Capricorn - 22nd December to 19th January
Capricorns are the hardest workers of the zodiac and love nothing more than getting ahead in life. They are ambitious, determined, materialistic and strong and are well disciplined.
Their tendency to have great self-control makes them our most sensible drivers when it comes to speed, scoring 22% lower than Pisces.
11 Aquarius
Progressive, originality and independence are all qualities of Aquarians. They are very upfront people, and don’t do shenanigans or shady business.
Aquarians are the smoothest drivers, with the best score for smooth acceleration. However, their dislike for limitations has meant they come close to being the worst drivers for speeding, only 2 points behind the speediest signs.
12 Pisces - 19th February to 20th March
Compassionate, artistic and wise, Pisceans have an inner struggle with their duality. Wanting to be both successful and busy whilst also escaping reality, this sign is very in touch with all of their feelings.
One could argue that this constant battle influences their driving capabilities. Scoring the worst for both braking and speeding, Pisceans should maybe concern themselves less with their ambitions and stay in the here and now.
