We recently ran a survey asking drivers what they love about in car-tech, and more importantly – what they wanted to get their hands on! We’ve pulled it together to see what bits of tech seems to be the best picks, as well as the all-important question – what do we want the most?

What is the piece of in-car tech do young drivers want the most?

1

87% can’t live without music entertainment

The only thing that can possibly bring a road trip down is if there is a lack of music to go along with it – and don’t we know it. Having a music entertainment system has pulled the top stop in our survey! But who wants it the most? 59% of those who want music entertainment systems are boys! Keep singing along, lads.
2

71% want Parking sensors

They’re handy, that’s for sure. But maybe we’re more confident with our own parking skills than we know? That being said, there’s still quite a large percentage that would love to get their hands on their own parking sensors. But we can’t just leave it there, can we? We need to know who wants to get their hands on parking sensors the most. Well with 55% of those who want it being the boys, it seems girls are that bad at parking after all 😉
3

70% would be lost without sat-nav

So it turns out, nearly 3 quarters of the people in our survey have no idea where they’re going ;). A built-in sat nav can help take the stress out of directions in an unfamiliar place, which is probably why so many of us want it! It turns out, only 40% of those who do want it, are the girls!
4

55% love the idea of parking assistance

They should be more helpful than parking sensors, but we don’t want it as much. Just over half of us want to get our hands on parking assistance! Again, it’s the boys who are most keen on sitting back and relaxing while the car parks itself, with 56% saying “I want it!”
5

47% crave cruise control

So it seems like we all want the best tunes possible on our road trips, over bits of tech that can actually make driving easier! Fun over comfort – ay? And who wants this helpful piece of tech the most? It’s the boys again. Only 35% of the girls said they wish they had it.

It’s all about the tech

Only 3% of people who took our survey said they didn’t want any in-car tech. There are some people who don’t like having any form of in car-tech and can find it all very distracting and unnecessary to have in their cars. Judging by the stats it’s the music entertainment system that wins as the in-car tech most young drivers need. Maybe not the latest tech on the market, but it seems to show that we all love a good sing song on a road trip.

It also seems that boys are more likely to desire the latest tech than girls – whether that’s because they need the extra help parking, or they just want the latest tech, who knows – and the girls are less fussed generally.

You can check out our blogs on all of these bits of tech and how to use them. We’ve got step by step guides on how to get the best music in your own car, the best options for your built-in sat navs, top tips to get the most out of your cruise control, everything you need to know about parking sensors, and even a little video on how one of our own Marmalade employees finds his parking assistance feature.
