When you’re looking to get your hands on a new car, one of the things you’re probably worried about is the cost. Whilst we may all want the latest flashy supercar, if it’s not practical on the cost then it’s a no go. We’ve pulled together a list of cars that are in low insurance groups. The lower the insurance group, generally the lower your car insurance! It is important to remember, however, that there are many factors in determining your insurance price, including your location and age. Whilst a car in a low insurance group should keep costs low, it’s not the only determining factor.

Don’t be put off by the thought of having a Nissan Micra. The brand new Micra is sleeker, smoother and much more fashionable than before (trust me, you’ll turn heads in this beauty). The brand new Micra is only available as a five-door hatchback, so it’s surprisingly spacious and easy to drive. You’ll keep the costs low too, as the Visia 1 litre 5door is in insurance group 1.

This tiny machine is more versatile than you may think and is actually a lot bigger than the classic Smart cars you’re probably used to seeing. This hatchback is fun to handle and doesn’t compromise on performance. You’ll be able to keep your insurance costs low with this too, as the Pure 71hp 5d is in insurance group 1!

The Skoda Citigo is very safe to drive with a stellar five-star rating, but perhaps more than all this, it’s a supreme driving experience. This is a great little all-rounder to the point that it’s been awarded best city car of the year 2016 by What Car? Magazine. What’s more, the 1-litre MPI models are in insurance group 1, and the colour editions in Insurance group 2!

There’s a lot more to the Up than meets the eye! This size of the car and engine means running costs are low, saving you money and helping you do your bit for the environment. What’s more, the 1 litre Take Up, 3 or 5 door is in insurance group 1! Winner winner!

The i10 is economical, handles itself as well in town as it does the open road, and is great to drive overall. It’s smart and sassy, and in insurance group 1 so you’ll cut costs too!

With its sleek body, light steering and clever gadgets, the Vauxhall Corsa is fun and enjoyable to drive. Not only that, it’s sturdy, safe and super spacious! Inexpensive too, the 1.2 Life 3door is in insurance group 2.

This funky little car is sure to turn heads when you’re out on the road. The Panda has been updated to give it a more trendy and cheerful feel and with bags more personality. If you’re after a compact car in a low insurance group, this may be the one for you. The 1.2 litre Pop 5door, is in insurance group 3!

Now in its third generation and benefiting from a few tweaks and updates, the Rio is looking and driving better than ever. The Rio also scored five stars on the Euro NCAP safety test. The 1.4 CRDi 5 door is in insurance group 4. Cheap and easy on the eyes? You’re in for a winner if you choose this ride!

There’s so much to like about the C1. Not only does it look great, but it’s easy on your pocket too. It’s affordable to run and well-engineered. The 1 litre VTi Touch and Feel 3door’s are in group 6! What’s not to love?

This supermini is the perfect eye-catching ride, without breaking the bank. The Touch PureTech 68 5 door is in insurance group 8, so should be a serious contender if you’re looking for a spacious ride to turn heads on the road.

It’s always worth checking what insurance group a car is because this can determine the costs of your insurance. If you’re looking to check what insurance group a car is in, check out this handy tool!
