The end of the year is fast approaching, and 2017 has been a year of huge changes! From the new driving test to new GCSEs and A-Levels – nothing seems the same as it was 12 months ago! Let’s take a quick trip back through the year that’s been 2017.

Rockingham

As always, Rockingham was a huge success for us this year! From driving under the influence (with goggles and in controlled conditions, of course) to taking a Nissan GTR for a spin – it certainly was a great day out, and one we will remember. Luckily, we’ve got the photos and videos to keep it fresh in our mind!

Learners on the motorway

In August, a huge announcement was made that from next year, learner drivers will be driving on the motorway with their instructors. This news really caused a stir, and we’ll be looking for more updates soon as to when this monumental change will come into play.

Our blog ambassador Jim had avoided motorways for 2 whole years after he passed his test, so we sent him out with an instructor to build his confidence.

Electric and self-driving cars

The government announced this year that they are investing £340 million pounds in electric and autonomous cars. This will include research and development into charging technology and upgrading the electric car-charging infrastructure. This is definitely a step towards the future and the change in driving as we know it – and has been the centre of plenty of discussions on our Facebook page! What do you think about these technological advances – do driverless cars appeal to you or scare you?

Driving Test Changes and #TeamGuineaPig

Our guinea pig campaign was a huge success and really helped young people dealing with the driving test and exam changes to connect with one another, and discuss how they were feeling. We are on the side of young people, and although the guinea pig campaign may now be over, it hasn’t stopped you all talking with each other about the changes. We had lots of competitions running on our social media pages, as well as 3 winners of £150 Ticketmaster vouchers.

Hmmm who will they be going to see in concert we wonder…

What will 2018 hold?

Huge changes have come around this year, and it’s not likely to stop there. What do you think next year will bring? At the rate of development, maybe we’ll have flying cars by 2019 😉 Pop over to Facebook to let us know what you’ve loved about 2017, and what you’re most looking forward to for the new year!

Merry Christmas, from all of us here at Marmalade!
