Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Reading - all amazing locations, holding some awesome events this summer. But with festival season fast approaching, there are already reams of tips and guides across the net on music festivals.

That's why we've created 'Carmalade' - our guide to the events you probably wouldn't have thought to check out this summer! That's right - we're talking Bedford, Little Budworth and Overton; maybe not the most exciting venues, until you add cars, petrol and racing into the mix!

Car festivals may be a bit alternative, sure, but they provide everything you'd need out of your generic music fest, with a lot more adrenaline and activity to boot. You can check out the interactive map below to see our favourite events or read on to find out more.

Oh, and if you feel you've missed the opportunity to go to one of the events, we can help! Each week we're releasing a pair of tickets to lucky competition winners. Scroll to the bottom of the post for entry instructions.

Bug Jam VW

Show dates: 17th -19th July

Bug Jam is a massive VW festival at Santa Pod Raceway, featuring drag racing and stunt displays as well as five music arenas, comedy shows, funfairs and plenty of 'Run What Ya Brung' public track time. This is a full-on festival experience - don't forget the baby wipes!

Silverstone Classic

Show dates: 24th - 26th July

This is the world's biggest motor racing festival, and one packed full of events and attractions over three days. The legendary Silverstone Circuit hosts over 90,000 people for races, classic car club shows and live demonstrations - and if that's not enough, you'll also see air shows, pyrotechnic displays and live music performances.

CarFest

Show dates: 31st July - 2nd August (North) & 28th August - 30th August (South)

CarFest actually holds two events - CarFest South is based in Hampshire, while CarFest North takes place in Cheshire. Both are geared towards raising money for Children in Need, and feature two days of track shows, car clubs and driving experiences for all ages. In the evening you can expect live performances from Primal Scream, Seasick Steve and Scouting for Girls - what more could you ask for?

Ford Fair

Show dates: One day event - 2nd August

The Ford Fair is a must for any budding driver; this is where you can drive around the famous Silverstone Circuit, following in the footsteps of expert Ford racers from across the world. There's a Novice round for those with little to no track experience - and when you're not on the road you can take a look at the amazing club displays.

Shelsley Walsh Championship Challenge

Show dates: 15th - 16th August

If you've taken an interest in professional racing, this is one spectator event you shouldn't miss. The Shelsley Walsh is the oldest continuous motor sport show - older than Le Mans and the Grand Prix - and it's a great opportunity to see a whole range of vintage and historic cars as well as a few classics.

Land Rover Owner International Show

Show dates: 19th - 20th September

The LRO is great for the more daring young driver - when else will you get the opportunity to take a Discovery bombing along the off-road routes and dirt tracks? The festival also includes everything you might expect from a crown of Land Rover lovers - survival courses, fire-building, live vehicle rebuilding and the exhilarating Britpart 4x4 obstacle course.

All in all that's a bad boy selection to choose from - real petrolheads will love Silverstone Classic and the LRO, while drivers looking for a more chilled out weekend will enjoy the cool vibes at Bug Jam. Speed freaks should aim for the Ford Fair or the Shelsley - and if mum and dad insist on joining you, you can palm them off at the music tents at the bigger festivals, so you can explore your first car show properly!

Worried you may have missed the opportunity to get down to one of these festivals? Never fear - we've sourced tickets for you! Just enter our latest competition for a chance to win.
