Do not disturb while driving - says iPhone!
Hands up who's got an iPhone? Have you updated your software to iOS 11 recently? If so, you've probably noticed the new 'Do not disturb while driving' feature - do you like it? We asked on social media and got some interested replies!
Why bother with this feature?
In theory, it shouldn't be required - after all, using your phone when you are in control of a vehicle is illegal! However sadly this isn't always deterring people, even with this year's increase in the level of fines and points handed out on the spot to those caught.
A sneaky reply to a text at the traffic lights, the lure of an Instagram notification; the temptation is right there for those who don't keep their phones out of sight during a journey. This feature uses motion detection to work out when you may be driving, and automatically stops all notifications from displaying. When you stop driving, you simply click to tell the phone and your notifications will appear. No more flashing lights or lit up screens enticing you!
I don't look at my phone when I'm driving anyway
Cool, you rock for that, and we thank you on behalf of all road users!
What do people think about it?
Nearly half (48%) of the people who answered our Twitter poll said that they didn't need this feature because they don't have their phones out while driving - yay to you guys! Over 1,000 people responded and 1/3 love the new feature, although some people feel frustrated at their iPhones switching the do not disturb feature on when they aren't actually driving!
Some people on Facebook and Twitter were asking whether an Android version will be released - we're not in the know with these things, but as we're all for tech that helps to keep you lovely lot (and everyone else!) safe, we are keeping our eyes peeled for any updates in the Android-sphere.
We'd love to hear what you think; are you using it? Let us know!
